"I think this is the beginning
of a beautiful friendship."
Since Bogey said it more than 70 years ago, I don't think anyone else has believed it happens so easily. Relationships are hard - rarely does someone experience "like at first site." It takes time to build and cultivate the trust that is the basis for all relationships.
This applies to brands, too. I heard you are looking for an Account Director. What a coincidence - I'm looking to not only engage people, but to also surprise and delight them along the way. I want to make a difference every day, changing hearts and minds along the way. Since you are already here, please spend a few more minutes getting to know me - the me & cv links above are a good place to start. If you want to see how I match up against this job's requirements, take a look below - I have included some highlights from lives past. I hope we can further explore cultivating our relationship. |

(Did you guys steal these from my soul? I think you'll find I tick all of these boxes throughout this website. If you want more details, shoot me a note, and let's talk. Otherwise, start by looking at my CV)
Also, I'm clever, curious, contrary, passionate, hard-working, and a blast at karaoke - in case any of that matters.

- While the expected is great for most, and beneficial to magicians, I prefer to surprise and delight - again and again. That includes promising great, and delivering greater. Take a look at some of the events I have dreamed up. Most exceeded expectations and always delivered on budget. When you build a relationship with a client based on trust and success, organic and strategic growth tends to follow. Listening and a natural propensity for curiosity also help me grow deeper relationships. At MS&L I worked with many clients in differing businesses and each time, I was the go-to guy when it came to understanding the client and assessing current and future needs.
- I am at my best when I am leading a group of creative and strategic thinkers. Redefining amazing is something I strive to do on a daily basis. Yesterday already happened, and tomorrow is right around the corner - what is after that? And how can we do better? There is something uniquely invigorating about a brainstorm session. If execution is dinner, then brainstorming is dessert.
- I was tapped to build a comprehensive sponsorship and client hospitality program at First Data. When I led the team to build, and then execute, our sponsorship of the TOUR Championship, I spent a great deal of time guiding our planning sessions. Not only did we need to entertain existing customers, but we also had to build our brand with a heretofore un-engaged and un-aware potential client base. We did it, and we redefined the face of golf hospitality.
- This is a pretty basic concept once you build a relationship. Open and honest communication - both internally and externally - are cornerstones in any endeavor.
- Duh. This is what I really miss. Don't believe me? Click here for proof.
- I led cross-functional teams at First Data, and multidisciplinary teams at MS&L serving a host of internal and external clients across numerous lines of business and industries. In order to lead varying groups as I have done, one must possess the ability to not only think creatively, but to also lead others to discover and tap into the creativity inside of them.
- I have been lucky to have mentors across the spectrum, each providing me guideposts with which I can cultivate my mentoring skills by either modeling my behavior on theirs, or by internalizing behaviors I want to avoid. While I do not profess to be perfect, I have enjoyed good relationships with those I have led, and I believe I have left them the better for our meeting.
- I enjoy relationships that challenge me to be bigger, better, faster and more than I am. By the way, that was a pretty great album, too. I'm risible, urbane in deportment, and courteous in expression.

- I grouped the three above together because this is an area where I think I shine. I believe they are tightly connected and critical to successful consultation. As an ENTJ, I prefer to work with others, have strengths in theory and abstract reasoning, I prefer logic, and I like to work on projects directed towards a goal.
- My undergraduate degree is in American Sign Language interpreting, and I think this may be one of the most relevant skills I possess. Much like I would do as an interpreter, I am skilled at understanding complex ideas, breaking them down into their component parts, and translating or conveying them to another individual in a way s/he can understand. This is a cornerstone of agency work, and I believe I am masterful in my execution.
- Working for both agencies and corporations, I've been on both sides of the table in negotiations. I believe the key is being fair and honest, while allowing both sides to feel they have won.
- Ask any of my former vendors, and they will tell you they are more than just a supplier - they are a partner. In fact, at First Data, we referred to our primary promotional materials partner as a friendor. The reasoning was twofold: I love a good portmanteau, and it was a good way to describe our relationship.
- The relationship with the client is the foundation of all we do. None of us has a job until we have a client. With a signed MSA. And an SOW. Nurturing and cultivating that relationship is key to any agency's success.
